Things Everyone Does

Everyone has a fund.

They are an angel, a scout, raising a fund, starting a syndicate. There's a new approach at every turn:

  • Henry Stebbings, the young founder of a 20minuteVC podcast, who already had a fund, now has another even more ambiguously broad fund called 20vc

  • Nikhil Krishnan, the writer of Out-of-Pocket, the newsletter on everything health care, has announced he is a scout. Here are his investing theses.

  • Sahil Lavingia, the founder of Gumroad, has announced he is formalizing his investing and taking LPs. Here is the fund memo he shared on his open board meeting call today.

  • Are you interested in joining the party? Angellist makes it easy with the rolling fund.

Everyone has a puppy.

We already knew people were obsessed with their pets but it's become wider, deeper, and shows no sign of slow down. I see puppies everywhere. People with one dog now have multiple. People with no dogs have changed their tune; I was a call today where a group of people talked about what they do to celebrate their dog's birthday. That's a lot of spend, folks. Recurring, predictable. Pets are family. Check out.

  • Wearable Device Market for pets

  • Insurance for pets: Trupanion ($TRUP) is at an all-time high.

  • Services for pets

Everyone has a newsletter.

Seriously. Like 40 authors described on The Type House or everything you see on Substack. There are newsletters on newsletters. Newsletter aggregators. I probably subscribe to over 50 newsletters. I read a lot. I almost hate to say I write a newsletter now. It feels trite. Even a year in, I also cannot say I was here first.
