Product Review: LAMY
Product review: LAMY - German writing instruments - Now, look. I’m born and raised in the midwest so the thought of spending hard-earned, post-tax income on a ‘writing instrument’ when they are handed out everywhere for free is completely illogical, crazy town, never going to happen. Or at least it was. Until last month when my British friend with a penchant for beautiful design and top functionality insisted we stop in the new LAMY store in SoHo.
What is Lamy? A German company founded in 1930 devoted entirely to well-crafted ink-based pens. As I perused the store and started testing the pens desire was building and I ended up with a Lamy Lx Fountain Pen. And, friends, I love it. I’ve been using it for over a month now for everything - daily pages, letters, note-taking, to-do lists and it’s a pleasure. It makes me want to write more. The writing blister on my middle finger has gone away and I’ve used up four cartridges.
I’m not what the website describes: ‘The LAMY Lx is both a writing instrument as well as a lifestyle accessory – the perfect companion for style-conscious trendsetters who enjoy a touch of luxury in their day-to-day lives.’, I want to enjoy the freehand, writing process. So, pardon the pretense and ad copy. You can’t even order these online. Welcome to the world of being a person who pays for a fancy pen, but also being a person who doesn’t casually lose the said-fancy pen. I guess that is what James Clear would applaud as an identity shift
